PROJECT INTRODUCTION

OSU has the one of the top fermentation science programs in the country - meaning large funding for research. Backbone and Hibarr were new product lines developed in collaboration with the College of Business looking to reach market utlilizing new research on campus.

FUN FACTS

Did I get to taste any of it? No.

Backbone is a line of mid to top shelf vodka and brandy that prides itself on the local Oregon blueberries it's made from. Blueberry flavored? Nope, it's as clean as Mt. Hood's glacial runoff so I've been told. It was important that the uniqueness of product was present but didn't scare off potential consumers into thinking they'd become a Violet Beauregarde.

A drink for wine lovers and beer haters. A drink for beer lovers and wine haters. Beer wine hybrids are finding a place in the microbrew community. A new barley strain developed at OSU needed to know where to go and this drink and snack were perfect. Hibarr is a line of honest, locally sourced collaborative wines and food that make the hybrid drinks and barley snacks. It won the Spring 2018 OSU Shark Tank. Done in collaboration with Sean Flynn and Bella Contino.
